HUTCH & GARNER
Hutch & Garner is a collaboration between James Hutcheson and Andrew Garner, both originally from England, but now based in Dubai.
They have been working together on assorted projects since 2004, in a variety of genres from surrealist photography to digital pop art, traditional painting to photographic still life, as well as commercial projects.
When it comes to digital art, Hutch & Garner look to the meaning of the word contemporary - “of the time” or “up to the minute”. In their opinion, in the modern day of computers and the digital revolution, what is digital art other than exactly that? contemporary - of the moment.
As far back as 1985, one of the worlds most famous artists of the 20th century, Andy Warhol first used an Amiga PC to create a self-portrait and portrait of singer Deborah Harry (Blondie). He was not the first to see the potential of this new “tool” for artists, and he certainly wasn’t the last. In 2003 Laurence Gartel’s "Moz Ocean" from his private collection was valued at US$520,000 by MOMA NYC and was at that time recognised as the world's most expensive digital print. Digital art truly had arrived.
Around the world, digital art is picking up momentum, and is now widely accepted as one of the latest steps in the evolution of contemporary art.
Hutch and Garner have embraced this new art form, and are utilising this new medium to produce high impact, visually stimulating work, that they feel is relevant to todays viewers. With a range of images incorporating subjects from familiar iconic images to some more diverse. An up and coming culture of adult’s born in the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s want something that reflects their own backgrounds and aspirations, not just those of the artists who are producing the work on display. As such, Hutch & Garner’s work appeals not only to the mass but also to the individual. With a pinch of the 70’s they’ve added neon to photo and graphic to give kitsch modern images with an eccentric retro feel. Whether your taste runs to the accentuated image of a ‘Pontiac’ or a celluloid impression of Marilyn Monroe, they have the ability to help create your vision.
HUTCH
The arrival in the UK of the Graffiti art scene in the late 70’s and early 80’s was what first sparked James’ interest in art. Although not widely accepted as a true art form until much later, it inspired him to follow a career path into the creative industries, working in some of London’s leading advertising and design agencies.
His various creative roles, first in London U.K. and more recently Dubai U.A.E., have helped him to constantly develop his skills, and have been a constant inspiration - with the necessity to diversify in order to accommodate the ever changing needs of local and international clients.
James first ventured into the art world as an artist while living in the UK, having work exhibited in several venues in London and Brighton, U.K., as well as many private commissions.
Most recently he held the position of Creative Director in a Dubai based creative agency.
